Prompt: Holiday music: essential part of the season, or ‘no way, it makes my ears bleed’?
Depends on the year and the situation.
When I worked a retail job, I head nonstop Christmas music coming over the store speakers nonstop from Thanksgiving to New Years. If Whammageddon had been a thing back then, I would have been out day one, hour one. Before that I was in both high school and church choirs. We’d start practicing in September for our December performances.
So once I was in an office space, I had more control of my music. Mostly Ihear it now on commercials or when shopping, if I don’t have my headphones in.
And as far as Whammageddon goes, I’ve managed to miss hearing it so far. Fingers crossed that I actually make it this year.
I like Christmas music in moderation. Too much of it makes me crazy. There are certain things I really love, others I really, really hate. (“Last Christmas,” oddly, is kind of in the middle. I don’t love it but it’s so old now that I just take is as a classic, up to a point!)
