August Challenge

I’ve had a problem maintaining word count lately.

Actually, that’s not true.  I’ve had an abysmal time maintaining word count lately.  Thanks to depression, exhaustion, and uncertainty, I’ve come up against a hard stop.  I’m lucky to grind out 100 words a night.

At this point I’m 42 words into this post.  It has been like pulling teeth to get this far.  It’s not for lack of ideas, but lack of focus.  I’m bouncing off in five different directions, trying to get everything done at once.  I need to relearn how to focus.  I suspect that will start with turning off the WiFi.

I have a few unofficial deadlines coming up, and no gumption to get started. So a few friends and I are challenging each other to write 30,000 words during the month of August.  That is 968 words a day.  It’s not as bad as a full NaNoWriMo count of 1667, but it it is a bit intimidating.

The additional challenge is that I am going to be heading to Worldcon in the middle of August.  I’ll be writing on the road, which will either go well, or be a complete disaster.

I have two stories partially outlined.  It’s the first, so no more time to wonder about what to do next.  It’s time to apply fingers to keyboard, shut out the rest of the world, and see what comes out.
