It’s made from yarrrrrrn!

One of my hobbies is creating costumes to wear at conventions and other events.  I loved playing dress-up as a child.  When I discovered conventions and Renaissance fairs, I  was thrilled to find out that I didn’t have to wait until Halloween to wear a costume.  But I had one problem.  My grandmother was the one in the family who sewed.  She would be able to whip up a fancy dress out of burlap and rope, I did not share her talents.  My sewing abilities stopped at being able to fix a seam and cut a straight line.

I started going to conventions about the same time that I discovered knitting.  Perusing Ravelry [url] I saw several accessories made out of yarn, one of them being a corset.   Immediately I thought pirate and began knitting.  I also made in a sword, a flintlock pistol.  My costume got a lot of comments when I wore it at BayCon.  Of course I didn’t think to take a picture of it.

I revisited the pirate costume idea for last year’s San Jose Fantasy Faire.  I made a pirate hat and a sporran to use as a purse.  This time I did remember to take a picture.
